My approach

At Martin Beck Counseling, I take a holistic approach to therapy. I consider the whole person, not just their symptoms. I partner with clients to craft tailored strategies that fit their distinct requirements. To provide the best service to my clients, I must always be at the top of my game. I am committed to ongoing training and the latest psychology research. I want to help clients by blending evidence-based practices with a compassionate approach. This will help them find their strengths and explore their feelings. It will also help them work through their issues.

It's easy to feel isolated and disconnected. We all face tough times that leave scars. Even our successes can cause stress and anxiety. As a therapist, I know it's vital to live authentically. It's also important to find meaning and purpose. I offer individual therapy to help with life changes or challenges. It's tailored to your unique needs.

I prioritize collaboration to help you heal. Your insights strengthen my capacity to provide expert support. I aim to create a nonjudgmental space. It should nurture self-acceptance. This will build a strong, trusting, and empathetic bond. We'll work together for your growth and well-being, with compassion.

Relationships can be tough, even at the best of times. My approach aims to foster intimacy and personal growth for couples. I want to strengthen their bond and deepen their understanding of each other. Through therapy, couples can overcome barriers to communication and connection. Together, we will cultivate greater understanding, self-awareness, empathy, and profound connectedness.

Martin Beck, CSW

I wasn't always a therapist; I am also an artist.

I am a licensed, certified social worker providing psychotherapy in Kentucky. I earned my master's in social work from the University of Kentucky. I also completed my research internship at the College of Social Work and my clinical internship at Berea Counseling Services. Working with experienced professionals helped refine my skills.

I began my journey as an artist with a BFA from S.U.N.Y. Buffalo and an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University. My artwork has been in prominent exhibitions. I've won two New Jersey State Council on the Arts fellowships. Through my art, I explore the human condition, inspired by existentialism and humanism.

As a first-generation American, I know the struggles of immigrants and their families. It's complex. My background reminds me to be empathetic in my therapy work.About 25 years ago, I was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). It's an arthritis that causes stiffness and pain in joints and connective tissues. I managed the condition for a long time. Its consequences affected my art and dominated my daily routine. Adapting to these changes, I decided to pursue a second career in psychotherapy. This change made me rethink my priorities and values. It led me to help others navigate their own struggles.

My experiences taught me that therapy is not one size fits all. I customize therapy to meet each client's unique needs. This allows me to provide the support and tools you need. Together, we can then make real, lasting changes in your life!
